The Yamuna Nagar Sessions Division is overseen by the District & Sessions Judge in Jagadhri. Currently, the Sessions Division has an approved strength comprising one District & Sessions Judge, five Additional District & Sessions Judges, a court of Civil Judge (Senior Division)-cum-Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, a court of Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Additional Civil Judge (Senior Division), and seven courts of Civil Judges (Junior Division)-cum-Judicial Magistrates. All Civil Judges also wield the powers of Judicial Magistrates and Rent Controllers.
The District & Sessions Judge and Additional District & Sessions Judges hold authority as the Appellate Authority under the Haryana Urban (Control of Rent Restriction) Act, 1973, as well as serve as the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal. The pecuniary jurisdiction of both appellate courts and Civil Judges (Senior Division) is unlimited. Civil Judges (Junior Division) handle jurisdiction in original civil suits up to the value of two lakh rupees. After completing three years of service, they also preside over cases exceeding the value of two lakh rupees.
Upon appointment, an H.C.S. (Judicial Branch) Officer is initially granted the powers of a Judicial Magistrate 2nd Class. After completing one year of training, they are invested with 1st Class powers and summary powers under Section 260 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, following the recommendation of the Sessions Judge concerned.
